2011 July Record Setting King Salmon

2011 July Record Setting King Salmon

The 2011 salmon season is in full swing. The predictions that the state had published months ago seem to be right on, with a record number of king salmon this year. The report also predicted five year fish implying very big fish. The 26th of June is the opening day of the regular season.

We opened on the 18th but only for hatchery kings. I did get out during this period and it was stellar. On Thursday we were only able to keep three hatchery kings but we did release 7 native adults. The morning bite was really happening.

We also released a few shaker kings and four silvers. It was steady fish on action.  The season is open seven days a week with a three fish limit, one may be a king then the third fish can be a pink as they run on odd years.

The bottom fishing is also very good with daily limits on sea bass. The limit is ten sea bass and two lingcod. Fishing lingcod on the inside is not as good as on the outside but we do get a few a trip. I also offer combo trips for salmon and bottom fish in the same day.

It is also time to think about albacore tuna fishing off the Washington coast. This is becoming a very popular fishing expedition.
